Trabajadores agrícolas y procesos políticos en el valle del Choapa (Chile, 1957-1975)

Abstract

El movimiento campesino en Chile ha sido tratado fundamentalmente desde el ámbito de la sociología agraria, llegando a establecer que su surgimiento, en el valle central del país (desde las regiones de Aconcagua a la Araucanía), se encuentra asociado el desarrollo del proceso de reforma agraria (1967-1973). En este artículo se analiza la trayectoria social y política del movimiento de trabajadores agrícolas de la zona de Choapa, en el norte de Chile, durante la segunda mitad del siglo XX, precisando que las formas de organización temprana y los procesos de politización que experimentó arrancan hacia la década de 1920 y se consolidan y maduran en la década de 1950. En este trabajo se logra verificar la estrecha relación que existió en la zona de Chopa entre movimiento sindical agrario y organizaciones políticas de izquierda.
