Abstract

This text proposes to discuss the Whaling Frame Garopaba, part of the complex built frames and explored in Brazil between the XVII and XIX. Focuses on aspects related to the foundation and the frame structure, that is, an organized system of whale hunting, production and distribution of oil that played an active role in the formation of the municipality of Garopaba. The following analysis considers not only the economic importance of whale oil production but considers its primary role when printing their own pace to the economy of these colonial regions. In this sense, we intend to dialogue with the existing historiography, highlighting the little-discussed relationship between
the frames and the installation of a regular succession of population centers
that remained in the Santa Catarina coast.

Possui graduação em Abi - Ciências Biológicas pela Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (1978). Atualmente é tecnico em assuntos educacionais do Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia de Santa Catarina. Mestre em Patrimônio Cultural e Sociedade na Universidade da Região de Joinville- Univille.  Tem experiência na área de Educação, com ênfase em História e Patrimônio Cultural.

 

Roberta Barros Meira, Universidade da Região de Joinville - Univille

Bacharel e licenciada em Historia pela Universidade Federal Fluminense (2005), mestrado e doutorado em História Econômica pela Universidade de São Paulo. Docente do Mestrado em Patrimônio Cultural e Sociedade e do Departamento de História da Universidade da Região de Joinville - Univille. Tem experiência na área de História do Brasil, com estudos no campo do patrimônio ambiental e História Econômica.
