Abstract

The paper addresses some of the colonization projects and ventures proposed by humanitarian organizations. These projects were coordinated both during and after World War II, with the aim of assisting different groups of refugees. The article discusses a variety of agricultural colonies and rural resettlement projects, highlighting the significant presence of ethnic German, Italian, Balkan, Polish, among other immigrants, who played a crucial role in organizing these initiatives. The agricultural colonies were established in various regions of the Americas and Africa, spanning countries such as Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Northern Rhodesia, and Southern Rhodesia. This study builds upon a review of historiography on the subject, with an emphasis on the debate surrounding colonization and rural labor.
