This article approaches the political actuality of Critical Theory from normative models of freedom reconstructed by Honneth in the book Das Recht der Freiheit. The hypothesis is that the success of public-democratic life is possible only in the Honnethian perspective when individuals reach intersubjective levels of mutual understanding of social experience of their freedom beyond juridical and statal protection of individual freedom and beyond moral reflection of actions. Only in the realization of social freedom is guaranteed the exercise of the democratic ethos based on communicative freedom, cooperation, social integration, and political participation, in view of realizing the value of solidarity.
