Among coffees, reagents, women and empowering: report about the “Global Women’s Breakfast” in Curitiba

Abstract

In 2019 International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry celebrated its 100th anniversary and one of the celebrations was the Global Women’s Breakfast, with the objective of giving visibility to the women in Chemistry. This report describes how occured the “Breakfast with the UFPR Chemistry women”. It was held at Universidade Federal do Paraná, bringing together teachers, researchers, technicians, students and other people interested in feminist guidelines and science to talk about gender inequality in Chemistry, machism and motherhood. The initiative was attended by over 150 participants and generated debates about the gender relations that permeate Chemistry. The event also provided other actions in this regard, such as the realization of other events and projects on the theme. Around the world, the celebration took place in more than 200 locations and, because of its reach, the 2021 edition is already being organized.

Gabriela Ferreira, Universidade Federal do Paraná

Graduanda do curso de Licenciatura e Bacharelado em Química da UFPR. É bolsista de Iniciação Científica fomentada pela Fundação Araucária, na área de Ensino de Química, sob a temática de Mulheres nas Ciências Exatas.

Camila Silveira, Universidade Federal do Paraná

Licenciada em Química pelo Instituto de Química da Universidade Estadual Paulista. Mestre e Doutora em Educação para a Ciência pela Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade Estadual Paulista. Atua no campo do Ensino de Ciências, trabalhando com Divulgação Científica, Educação em Museus, Mulheres nas Ciências, Relação Ciência e Arte, Formação de Professores, Processos e Recursos Didáticos. Atualmente, é Professora Adjunta do Departamento de Química, do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação em Ciências e em Matemática e do Programa de Mestrado Profissional em Química em Rede Nacional da Universidade Federal do Paraná.
