A workshop on the production of herbal hand-made soaps: Ecofeminism, microentrepreneurship and community outreach

Ervaterapia is a community outreach program developed and funded by the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Santa Catarina. This paper brings surveys and reflections about the workshops held on the production of artisanal soaps made using medicinal herbs grown on Campus Brusque. Seven workshops were held in the institution (Nov. 2021 - Jun. 2022), in the after-hours, aimed at both internal (students) and external audience (people in condition of social vulnerability), with the objectives of: a) re-educating the public regarding local herbal remedies and the conscientious use of synthetic drugs; and b) presenting alternative sources of income, particularly in the fields of micro-entrepreneurship/ecofeminism. Participants were intended to produce handmade soaps of lavender with fennel, eucalyptus with rosemary, tangerine with Sicilian lemon, and patchouli with melaleuca. On the occasion, they met the Institute, the courses available and the projects carried out. As a result, the project has strengthened the ties between school, community, and environment - which will be allies in future activities and workshops.
