Abstract

This research investigates how BRICS accommodates Chinese interests within the capitalist world-economy. The aim is to analyse how BRICS may contribute to a potential forthcoming Systemic Cycle of Accumulation led by China. The study examines BRICS Summit Declarations, China’s Five-Year Plans, and the Reports of the Communist Party of China Congress released since 2011. The hypothesis is that, through BRICS, China builds international consensus, an essential element of hegemony. The group strengthens Chinese foreign policy by projecting the image of a developing country concerned with the periphery and willing to take on a more active role in global governance. In this process, China provides international public goods such as economic stability, security, environmental protection, and infrastructure.
