Abstract
Goal: Evaluate the financial behavior of young students from different regions of Brazil.
Design½Methodology½Approach: This research is a descriptive, quantitative and comparative survey, the samples were formed by university students from cities outside the headquarters and who attend undergraduate courses at the Federal Universities of Santa Maria, Santa Maria, RS and Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, RN, we used four dimensions of the Scale of Meaning of Money by Schwartz (1992), 'conflict', 'suffering', 'pleasure' and 'power'. A total of 510 responses were received, 256 from RS and 254 from RN, applying correlation techniques and correspondence analysis.
Resuls: From the data analysis it was observed that students who spend more than they earn need more money and rarely or never save what they earn, as those who always save already had responsibility to control their money and spend less and those who do not is concerned about their expenses save sometimes and spend equal to what they earn. Students who spend more suffer more and have more conflict, and those who spend less feel less pleased and empowered.
Originality½Value: This research allowed us to compare different realities of two Brazilian states in terms of the pleasure and suffering that money brings in the day-to-day academic life of university students.
