Abstract

Goal: Evaluating how to approach the development of local innovation ecosystem and the typologies of cities to ascertain the existence of intersection points from an analysis carried out in the city of Maceió/AL, where in the last five years there has been an attempt to implement public policies of this order.


Design/Methodology/Approach: An exploratory research was conducted through the application of the action, management and monitoring methodology by levels of maturity of innovation ecosystems, which aims to understand and knowing the effectiveness and integration of actions that are taking place within an innovation ecosystem. For comparison with the results found initially, formal and public documents on the promotion of the concept of Smart City from the city hall were analyzed..


Results: The maturity of the innovation ecosystem in Maceió and its priority sectors was identified and characterized, demonstrating the existing correlations with public policies for a smart city in Maceió/AL. It was evident that such intersections are still weak, however with great potential for feedback in the near future in case of continuity of actions initiated..


Originality/Value: This is an unprecedented study that seeks to understand the convergence zones between the concepts of innovation ecosystem and smart cities from a case study, understanding how both concepts can feed back and contribute to local development.
