Abstract

Goal: To analyze studies based on the application of Design Thinking involving medical devices to discuss the importance of users' needs in solving problems related to health technologies.

Design?Methodology?Approach: This article presents a systematic literature review, using the Systematic Search Flow (SSF) method, through a search in the Scopus, IEEE, Pubmed, and Scielo databases. 161 publications were found according to the search criteria, and the defined keywords. Out of them, six articles were selected for the final analysis of the results.

Results: The results of the systematic review showed a variety of possibilities for the application of Design Thinking in the development of medical devices, from devices of higher risk class to less complex equipment, for home use, and software for clinical support, or devices to improve the experience of newborns, and children, and also to help healthy aging for the elderly.

Originality?Value: The development of new technological user-centered solutions for healthcare purposes allow the application of Design Thinking; especially those involving medical devices to improve the safety and quality of healthcare technologies for users, providing better usability and improving the understanding of the current context of technologies from the perspective of users.
