Abstract

Summary

GOAL: To analyze the innovative dynamics and technological development (via patent filing) of the world's largest companies in the oil and gas sector, from the perspective of the Structure-Conduct-Performance (S-C-P) model.

Design|Methodology|Approach: Descriptive exploratory research, bibliographic and documentary basis. The data survey was carried out by the number of patents of the main world oil and gas companies. They were mined using the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) as a research base. To perform a search and selection of data used in PatentScope, a tool provided by WIPO for technological data prospecting.

Results: It was possible to confirm that the basic conditions presented in the S-C-P model, such as: product value, demand, substitute products and public policies impacting directly and negatively on economic performance lower levels of investment in R&D (measured via deposits of patents).

Originality|Value: The originality of the research is based on the choice of the Structure-Conduct-Performance model to support the analysis of behavioral dynamics in relation to innovation and global development in the oil and gas sector.
