The use of the Law of Access to Information by journalists: an analysis of applicants, requests and responses

Abstract

The article discuss the result of the analysis of all requests made through the Law of Access to Information (LAI) by applicants identified as journalists in 2017. There were 3,386 applications filed by 856 journalists, of which 72.21% were provided. The study shows that journalists have made effective use of LAI in Brazil to obtain information. But most of them submitted only one request. There is a small group that has already made LAI a tool of continuous use during 2017.
