Smoking poses a high risk to individual health status and is more prevalent among some groups, such as LGBTQIAPN+ minorities. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the association between sexual orientation and consumption of tobacco products based on data from the 2019 National Health Survey (PNS) and by estimating Probit econometric models. In addition, interactions between homosexual and bisexual individuals by level of education and gender and their association with smoking were considered. The results showed that gays and bisexuals are more likely to smoke tobacco products than heterosexuals, and this relationship is amplified in the case of males with lower levels of education. These findings can be explained by the marginalization of these minorities based on homophobia, which is rooted in society, and the resulting mental disorders, as well as poorer health care.
