Value transfers to ICT multinationals in the ontogenesis of Dataprev

Founded in 1974, the Social Security Data Processing Company (Dataprev) began its activities by managing the technology infrastructure acquired by the National Institute of Social Security (INPS) from Burroughs, a U.S.-based company that manufactured mainframe computers. This article presents partial results from a Doctoral Thesis in which we analyze Dataprev over its fifty-year history, with an emphasis on the relationships established between the company and circuits of value valorization. Based on a literature review and documentary research, the article examines the early years of this public state-owned company, during which its role in supporting the private capital accumulation of multinational ICT corporations becomes evident, within the scope of its responsibilities linked to public social policies between 1975 and 1979.
