What is it Like to Undergo a Rehabilitation Process? Cultural and Social Dimensions in the Experiences of Adults with Motor Deficiencies in Greater Buenos Aires

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the experiences with rehabilitation among people with motor deficiencies in relation to cultural and social aspects of their condition. It uses a qualitative methodological approach and 39 interviews were conducted with people older than 50 who have motor skill disabilities and live in Greater Buenos Aires. The article first focuses on the perception of incapacity and abnormality in the rehabilitation process. It then reconstructs the perception of the body with disabilities in relation to the physical environment and finally addresses the socioeconomic conditions of medical treatment.
