Abstract

This study discusses violence as a social-human phenomenon that is relational, multi-causal and polysemic, complex in its origins and manifestations and socio-historically produced. It debates the treatment of violence by healthcare policy and highlights advances of the Maria da Penha Law for women who are victims of domestic violence. It presents data about violence against women in Brazil, from a study conducted by the Ministry of Health and reflects on the intersectorial nature of public actions.
