This article is the result of reflections made by social workers on the basic staff of the Family Health Program in the municipality of Campina Grande in Paraíba State. Its horizon is the macrostructural scenery in which public policy is defined in Brazil and the implantation process of the Family Health Program (PSF), which was established as a strategy for reorganization of the Single Health System (SUS). After the history of the PSF in the municipality is presented, the paper looks at the local struggle to insert Social Workers on the basic staff, a conquest officially achieved in 2003. The role of Social Work in the program is discussed and analyzes the experience of social workers on the staff, indicating the difficulties and challenges for their daily work, in addition to presenting their contributions, based on the Ethical-Political Project of Social Work, to “make families healthy” in the municipality.Downloads
