Structural violence: mediations between "killing and letting die"

Abstract

The theme of this article is violence, sometimes as a symptom, some as a condition, and it highlights the central position it takes in production and reproduction of contemporary sociability. From theoretical research on the topic, the text, by presenting the issue in its complexity and problematizing hegemonic conceptions of structural violence, proposes a reconceptualization of it in the sense of understanding violence as modus operandi of patriarcal-racist-capitalist society and, in the same way, as a structural and structuring phenomenon of social relations. The reflexions also indicate the relevance of a critical approach towards structural violence as a theoretical-political path through connections and plurality it facilitates, with a view to denature ongoing violences and, therefore, strengthen diverse struggles and resistance against it.
