The city is analyzed as a product of the social division of labor, built in the context of class conflicts. The theoretical framework informing the research is grounded in concepts from the mandst social theory, which, against the background of the data collected, allow for the explicitation of some nuances of the sociospatial segregation process occurring in Brasilia, including the Entorno of the Federal District, focusing on the center/periphery relationship (not only between the Plano Piloto —the Urban Design or Pilot Plan for Brasilia — and the satellite cities, but also inside these cities and in the region of the Entomo). Among the moments characterizing land division based on conflicting interests, typical of the capitalist society, with a highlight on the role of the State, focus lies on: the relationship between the State and the land market; land as a product or urban expansion and the delimitation of social space, known as "Zoning".
