Agroecology and food safety in times of the Covid-19 pandemic

Abstract

This article aims it is contribute the debate on food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic, to report on the social extension initiative of the Solidarity Agroecological Planting (PAS) of the Federal University of Santa Catarina and the consequent impact on the access and distribution of organic food in Florianopolis, SC, Brazil. In the context of the health crisis, with more than 645,000 deaths from Covid-19 in Brazil, allied to the economic crisis, social inequalities were accentuated that deepened the hunger scenario in the country. The current pandemic scenario indicates a unique moment for our society to rethink the global right to access to healthy food and on which model of agriculture it is expected to promote. Agroecological agriculture is a viable and necessary model for the dignified and conscious production of food, providing mechanisms for the promotion Sovereignty and Food and Nutritional Security, through the democratization of access to healthy and pesticide-free food.

Possui graduação em Medicina Veterinária, Mestrado em Parasitologia (UFRGS), Doutorado em Ciências (CENA, USP), Pos Doutorado em Parasitologia (IB, UNESP) e Especialização em Homeopatia pela Fundação Homeopática Benoit Mure. Tem experiência na área de Medicina Veterinária Preventiva e Doenças Parasitárias dos Animais, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: Parasitologia Veterinária, Saúde Única, Agroecologia, Pecuária Orgânica, Fitoterapia e Homeopatia Veterinária. Atualmente é Profa. Associada do Departamento de Zootecnia e Desenvolvimento Rural e do Programa de Pós Graduação em Agroecossistemas do Centro de Ciências Agrárias (CCA) da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) em Florianópolis, SC. Coordenadora do Núcleo de Pesquisa e Extensão em Agroecologia da Fazenda Ressacada e do Laboratório de Parasitologia Animal do CCA UFSC.

Possui bacharelado em Ciências Biológicas pela Universidade Federal de Viçosa (2002) e licenciatura em Ciências Biológicas pelo Centro Universitário Metodista Izabela Hendrix (2008). É mestre em Ciências, com ênfase em Saúde Coletiva, pelo Centro de Pesquisas René Rachou-FIOCRUZ (2005) e especialista em Agroecologia e Desenvolvimento Sustentável pelo CEFET de Rio Pomba (2008) . Doutora em Educação pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (2015). Professora do curso Licenciatura em Educação do Campo da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC). Tem experiência na realização de diagnósticos e planejamentos de assentamentos rurais, em Educação do Campo, na elaboração de materiais educativos, elaboração e execução de projetos de pesquisa e estratégias de educação popular, educação do campo e agroecologia. Coordenadora do Laboratório de Educação do Campo e Estudos da Reforma Agrária - LECERA (Centro de Ciências Agrárias - CCA/UFSC) e integrante do GECA - Grupo de Estudos e Pesquisas em Escola, Educação do Campo e Agroecologia.
