The aim of this study is to contextualize the main lines from Ignacio Ellacuría’s thought, especially his way to understand the philosophy and its role, so that it becomes possible to present his theoretical-methodological proposal for the historicization of human rights. Because of the author’s importance for the constitution of a properly Latin American thought, this rescue of his ideas and his way of understanding the challenges for the construction of a just society is extremely necessary. Removing concepts from their abstract neutrality implies, in this way, inserting them into reality and making them instruments of struggle.
