Ethics and Social Work in the Mercosul
Abstract
This text is a literal rendering of the lecture delivered at the Central Panel “Human Rights and Social Matters in the Mercosul Countries” – First Regional Seminar on Ethics and Social Work in the Mercosul. The lecture was delivered on behalf of the “Associação de Assistentes Sociais do Uruguai” – ADASU (Uruguayan Association of Social Workers). The choice for the literal rendering stems from a wish to retain the form and richness of the original talk. In tune with the main topic of the Seminar, the paper is concerned with the economic, sociocultural and political changes of the end of the century and with the theoretical, methodological and ethical impact of such changes upon Social Work A message of hope and commitment is conveyed to the professional community of the region.
