Under a sartorian perspective, this article characterizes the Brazilian Workers’ Party (PT) like an anti-system party through an analysis of three cases in which the party’s objective was to cause a symbolic impact that could un-legitimize the Brazilian political system. Using the Panebianco’s theoretical model, we try to explain how the PT processed the institutional changes that made the party leave gradually his anti-systemic character: this enabled its progressive distancing of a left-wing isolation and the approach of the center-right political forces during the presidential electoral campaign in 2002. We nominated this migration toward the center of the national political spectrum by dislocation variable, essential for the conquest of the Presidency in 2002 by the party’s candidate.Downloads
