Abstract

In this article we present music therapy as used with an individual with profound bilateral deafness subjected to a Cochlear Implant. This is a surgical procedure that seeks partial hearing recovery through the implant of an electronic device in the inner ear. We begin with an explanation of the structure of the inner ear, using, in part, the Pierre Schaeffer theory on music and their usefulness in music therapy in the recovery of hearing capacity of individuals submitted to a Cochlear Implant are discussed. The techniques employed for this particular case, are also mentioned.
