The chiasmus storie-affect

This paper examines the relationship between the spread of a single colonial story and racist hatred. For this, we will inquire into Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's reflections on the “single story”. Then, we will examine the functioning of racist hatred, using conceptual contributions from the affective turn. From this, we will recover the schema of "chiasmus," conceptualized by Merleau-Ponty and taken up by Judith Butler, which allows us to conceive a relationship of mutual reference between two terms. We will use the lens of chiasmus to make visible the relationship between stories and affects, realizing that the stories that propagate a single story full of racist and sexist stereotypes are affectively invested, and at the same time, they participate in social affective atmospheres, producing effects and materializing in acts of racist hatred.
