Partindo da visão ampla da metodologia científica de Aristóteles, este artigo apresenta as questões da organização e representação do conhecimento no tempo. Desde a Antiguidade, o conceito de conhecimento vem-se redirecionando, tomando novas formas. A posição do conhecimento hoje se deve em parte ao fator tecnológico, que impõe transformações crescentes no campo disciplinar e profissional, tornando a informação insumo de todas as profissões, o que torna a ciência da informação parte intrínseca nesse ambiente de mudança e transformação, por convergir informação e ciência no mesmo escopo.
