Pintura, memória e história: a pintura histórica e a construção de uma memória nacional

A pintura histórica alcançou no século XIX importante lugar no projeto político do Segundo Reinado, devido ao trabalho realizado por Araujo Porto-Alegre, durante a Reforma Pedreira. Esse gênero artístico foi responsável pela formação de uma memória nacional e mantinha intenso diálogo com a produção do Instituto Historico e Geográfico Brasileiro (IHGB). A pintura histórica foi essencial na construção de uma identidade nacional, porque por meio dela forjou-se um passado épico e monumental, em que toda a população pudesse se sentir representada nos eventos gloriosos da história nacional. O trabalho de Porto-Alegre como crítico de arte e diretor da Academia Imperial de Belas Artes (AIBA) possibilitou a visibilidadeda pintura histórica com seus pintores oficiais, Pedro Americo e Victor Meirelles.Downloads
