The present paper investigates on the occurrence of depression, anxiety and somatization in a group of patients with lumbar pain and lumbar sciatica, attended in a neurological clinic located in Florianópolis-SC/Brazil, considering the concept of pain understood as a multidimensional phenomenon, the last approaches to painful syndroms, aknowledging the mediation of emotional and behavioural aspects thereupon. The fifty patients who were evaluated, underwent a neuropsychological anamnesis and a battery of psychological tests (Wartegg and SCL 90R) we are going to analyse with regard to the results on scales of depression, anxiety and somatization of SCL 90R. The results showed a significant association between depression, anxiety, somatization and lower back pain, corroborating the need of psychological evaluation in the diagnosis and treatment of painful syndroms of lumbar origin.Downloads
