Orkut and hypertextuality: construction of the subject in a hypertextual structure of exponential growth

Our aim is to reflect on the construction of the subject in cyberspace, specifically within the virtual community Orkut. The simulacra’s construction set as avatars interfacing the relationships, generated and created by screens and the increased use of personal computers (PCs), reveals itself as essential to the understanding of how this hypertextual architecture leads to the construction of the digital subject. The virtual community Orkut will be understood as paradigm of hypertextual structure with exponential growth and its constructive strategy leading and inducing to the modelling and dissolving of digital identities will be considered. It is a paradoxical device, since, on one hand, it defines ways and induces choices, and, on the other, it supposedly liberates the individual from his/her biological and socio-cultural limits, pointing to the practice of an extremely singular hypertextual route.Downloads
