The visual poetry of the @claricefreire profile and dialogical perspective: na analysis of compositional construction

Abstract

In digital social networks, it is possible to verify the existence of discursive genres native to cyberspace and genres that, traditionally, were published in printed media and started to be published in virtual media. As an example, there is the visual poetry of the writer Clarice Freire, on the Instagram profile @claricefreire. Her poems combine visual and written elements to produce the meaning of the text. Considering this scenario, it’s necessary go deep in the studies involving discursive practices that occur in digital media and that use multiple semiosis in their compositions. In this sense, this article, which constitutes an excerpt from ongoing master's research, aims to analyze, from the dialogic perspective of language, the use of everyday physical elements in the compositional construction of visual poems by the writer Clarice Freire on Instagram. This article is based on Bakhtin's (1926, 2011, [1979] 2016) dialogical conception of language and discursive genres. The methodology adopted was a qualitative case study type and three visual poems were selected. All of them have a common compositional structure, characterized by written words associated with sunflower petals. The analysis focused on the multimodality of the text, as well as the dialogism, inherent to digital social networks. It was concluded that the selected visual poems present a common compositional construction that is essentially multisemiotic and dialogic, as it uses the interactive potential of digital social networks to produce meaning.
