The officialization of the Portuguese language in Equatorial Guinea, a Central African country, and its subsequent binding to the Community of Portuguese Language Countries is addressed in this paper. The discussion is heading from an interdisciplinary perspective between History and Linguistics, which seeks to emphasize the political dimension of linguistic description of the Fá d´ambô, language spoken in Annobón province, one of Equatorial Guinea’s territory, since it has been used as evidence of connection with Portuguese culture and language. By way of a critical approach, the article tries to reflect on the extent to which the historic rescue of language would be an attempt to establish a continuity with a missing link, interpreting the language policy of descriptive linguistics through the concept of invention of tradition.
