The goal of this paper is to compare the intonational behavior of Brazilian Portuguese free small clauses (FSC) and wh-exclamative clauses, in the Curitiba-PR variety. We also intend to discuss the relationship between intonational behavior and syntax, semantic and pragmatics. Our hypothesis is that FSC and wh-exclamatives sentences have different intonational behavior, because they have different sentential forces. To test our hypothesis, we carried out a speech production experiment. We collected 288 sentences for analysis. The software PRAAT and the script MOMEL/INTSINT were used to data analysis. To the statistical analysis, we applied Wilcoxon test. The results showed that the intonational behaviour of FSC and wh-exclamative sentences is different. Therefore, we confirm our hypothesis.
