This work exposes a comparative analysis of occurrences of compound words in Brazilian Portuguese in comparison with German. For such, we discuss relevant criteria for considering a construction a word and its derivates a compound word. Then, we present a study from the analysis of a news column from a worldwide known portal, which creates content in various languages. We selected the same column in Portuguese and in German, and verified the occurrence of compound words in each of these languages.
