A 'true copy': considerations about the notion of authenticity in the cultural heritage field

Abstract

This paper aims to discuss some aspects of the notion of authenticity in the cultural heritage field, especially regarding remaining materials of the past. From different points of view, it proposes to relativize the opposition between the authentic and inauthentic, seeking to locate in copies, reproductions and reconstructions, relevant objects of study to researchers interested in issues related to cultural heritage in contemporary society.

Author Biography

Leticia Bauer, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul

Historiadora com atuação na área do Patrimônio Cultural. Atuou como pesquisadora do Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (IPHAN) e dirigiu o Museu das Missões. Nessa instituição, desenvolveu uma série de atividades relacionadas à conservação e divulgação do acervo, além de planejar e desenvolver a primeira etapa do Projeto de Requalificação da Exposição de Longa Duração do Museu. Foi pesquisadora e coordenadora executiva do Projeto Victor Meirelles - Memória e Documentação, desenvolvido pelo Museu Victor Meirelles/ IBRAM/ MinC. Atualmente é doutoranda do Programa de Pós-graduação em História da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul.
