The aim of this article is to report the extension experience between the Design course and the Blood Bank of the University Hospital Professor Polydoro Ernani de São Thiago (HU) of the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) with a focus on management, between 2015 and 2018. The project involved strategic communication and design planning, branding, inventory and process management. The results obtained ranged from the implementation of communication with the university community in an interpersonal and media way, optimized processes, reduction of waste and expenses, to improved service to donors. The strengths of this project are the interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary partnership, and the feasibility of this project being replicated in other hemotherapy centers.
