Restoration of the riparian forest at Córrego dos Colibris: environmental action involving High School students

Abstract

Stream environments are usually neglected in urban centers, being channeled, polluted or even forgotten under the concrete of the cities. Considering the importance of the riparian forest for the conservation of streams and, consequently, the well-being of the population, as well as being a little publicized topic, the objective of this report is to share the experience of a practice that aimed to mobilize processes to environmental education. The practice was developed with high school students from a state public school, within the scope of the vegetation recovery project of the riparian forest in an urban stream, located in the municipality of Niterói/RJ, the Colibris stream. The report indicates that the mediated activity mobilized processes and environmental education in the students, since they were able to understand the importance of restoring the riparian forest of the rivers that drain to the Itaipu lagoon as a way to revitalize the lagoon system.
