Community of practice as a university extension strategy

The experience report presents a set of actions developed in the context of a community of practice including science and biology teachers, popular educators, researchers, and undergraduate students in science and biology. In this way, the goal of this report is to share the use of the community of practice methodology associated with Freire's concept of dialogue, evaluating and discussing its possibilities and limits in a context of social vulnerability. It was concluded that the adopted methodology reframes the idea of extension; articulates extension and research without the former being mere context; and creates a space for initial and continued training linked to reality. On the other hand, it imposes longer deadlines for carrying out the work and demands recognition and negotiation based on the oppression systems in force at the territory.
