Abstract

It is shown that, even in a simple experiment of static friction, a careful analysis of the experimental uncertainties, including statistical and instrumental errors as well as the propagation of errors, should be taken in to account before a final conclusion regarding the usual hypothesis about friction between two dry surfaces. Using a simple and easily reproducible set up, we show a series of results and analysis for the coefficient of static friction.
