Peer review process
The journal Caderno Brasileiro de Ensino de Física adopts a double-blind peer review process in its editorial workflow.
Submitted manuscripts undergo an initial editorial screening (desk review), during which originality, contribution, relevance, topicality, overall structure, compliance with editorial policies and author guidelines are assessed, as well as similarity checks (plagiarism detection). Failure to meet any of these criteria results in rejection and archiving of the manuscript. The average time for this initial decision is approximately 30 days.
If the manuscript receives a positive evaluation at this stage, it will be sent to two external reviewers, holding a doctoral degree and with expertise in the subject area of the submission. In cases of conflicting reviews, a third reviewer will be appointed, and additional reviewers may be consulted until a final decision is reached. Authors who have previously published in the journal may be invited to act as reviewers.
Manuscripts are evaluated using the journal’s specific review form. According to the evaluation guidelines, submissions must:
- a) present a clear and well-founded argument, demonstrating coherence between the stated objectives, literature review, research conducted, and implications for practice;
- b) address the topic in a way that demonstrates a clear advancement in knowledge;
- c) include a critical review of the relevant literature;
- d) demonstrate, where applicable, that empirical investigations have been conducted with methodological rigor;
- e) include a critical assessment of the conclusions;
- f) discuss, whenever possible, the implications of the research for the practice of scientific and technological education.
The handling editor will notify the author of one of the following decisions: “accept without revisions”, “minor or major revisions required” (with or without further rounds of peer review), or “reject” with archiving of the manuscript.
In cases where revisions are required, authors will have 30 days to submit the revised manuscript along with a detailed response letter addressing the reviewers’ comments. A reasoned justification must be provided if any suggestions are not followed. The handling editor may forward the revised manuscript and the response document to the reviewers, when appropriate, to assess whether the revisions satisfactorily address the comments and to determine whether the manuscript should be accepted, rejected, or further revised.
If the final decision is rejection, the author will be informed of the reasons, and the manuscript will be archived.
Upon acceptance for publication, authors will be required to submit the final version in accordance with the journal’s template. Any errors identified at the proof stage will be the responsibility of the authors.
The journal reserves the right to reject manuscripts at any stage of the editorial process if similarity (plagiarism) with other works is identified.
Caderno Brasileiro de Ensino de Física does not charge submission or article processing fees.
The journal Caderno Brasileiro de Ensino de Física ensures that manuscripts submitted to thematic dossiers follow the same editorial rigor as regular submissions, being evaluated by at least two reviewers external to the editorial team, under a double-blind peer review system, and clearly identified by section.
The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for all published content and fully oversees the dossiers, including the work of guest editors. The credentials of guest editors are previously verified and approved, considering their academic qualifications, scientific relevance, engagement in research networks, and thematic alignment.
Manuscripts authored by guest editors (or members of the editorial team) are handled through an independent review process and do not exceed 20% of the total number of articles in the issue.
