For the complementarity of linguistic-enunciative, referential and polyphonic approaches to the study of narrative texts

In this paper, the purpose is to show that the linguistic-enunciative, referential and polyphonic approaches proposed in Language Studies for the comprehension of narrative must be understood as complementary and necessary to the formation of the language teacher and the linguist of text and discourse. After all, the complexity of a narrative text is only verified by the joint consideration of the linguistic-enunciative, referential and polyphonic aspects of the composition of this text. Initially, we started from a brief presentation of linguistic-enunciative, referential and polyphonic approaches proposed for the understanding of the narrative. Then, in the light of the concepts proposed in these approaches, we will defend the interest of the articulation of these approaches by analyzing the first chapter of the novel “Dom Casmurro”, by Machado de Assis.
