Types of topic sequencing in Textual-Interactive Grammar

This paper is developed within the theoretical framework of Textual-Interactive Grammar and it focuses on the process of Topic Organization, which is one of the text construction processes studied within that approach. A specific part of the process of Topic Organization is analyzed, namely the topic sequencing process, which concerns the concatenation of the units called “minimal Topic Segments”. The discussion addresses the typology of topic sequencing strategies proposed by Jubran (2006), in order to evaluate to what extent her classification is adequate for the analysis of genres that are different from the one initially considered in her proposal. In this respect, the purpose of the paper is to demonstrate that the typology proposed by the author is in fact adequate for the analysis of a broader variety of genres. Yet, it is also argued that such typology should incorporate a few specific categories to increase its descriptive power.

Eduardo Penhavel, Universidade Estadual Paulista - UNESP

Formou-se em Licenciatura em Letras, em 2002, pela Universidade Estadual Paulista - UNESP. Por essa mesma universidade, em 2005 concluiu o mestrado em Estudos Linguísticos, desenvolvendo sua Dissertação na área de Gramática Funcional. Em 2010, obteve o título de doutor em Linguística pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas - UNICAMP, com Tese defendida na área de Linguística Textual, tendo desenvolvido parte da pesquisa de doutorado na Universidade de Boston, EUA. Atualmente, é professor da UNESP, campus de São José do Rio Preto, onde trabalha nos cursos de Licenciatura em Letras e Bacharelado em Tradução e nos cursos de Mestrado e Doutorado em Estudos Linguísticos. Tem experiência na área de Linguística, com ênfase em Linguística Textual e Gramática Discursivo-Funcional, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: Organização Tópica, Marcadores Discursivos, Diacronia de Processos de Construção Textual, Gramática Textual-Interativa e Atos Discursivos Interativos.

Graduada em Licenciatura em Letras (2015), pela Universidade Estadual Paulista - UNESP. Atualmente é aluna do programa de Pós-graduação em Estudos Linguísticos do Instituto de Biociências, Letras e Ciências Exatas - IBILCE/UNESP, desenvolvendo mestrado acadêmico na área de Análise Linguística, com enfoque no estudo do texto sob o olhar da Linguística Textual.
