This paper placed in Michel Pêcheux’s discourse analysis has the purpose to analyze the statement “EU SOU SARTORI E MEU PARTIDO É O RIO GRANDE” pronounced by the candidate to the Rio Grande do Sul’s government, José Ivo Sartori, during his campaign in 2014. With this investigation, we intend to offer reflections around issues that can, in the verticality of the discourse, help in the comprehension of the excess and the lack both present in the discursive operation in focus. These notions are conceived as limits and interdictions that are imposed on the subject, being the excess, the part that allows the effect of truth and the lack what works as forgetfulness policy. These operations establish meaning effects that can displace, transform, preserve and/or delete senses.
