Ideology and construction of identities in a conciliation hearing at PROCON

Abstract

The paper proposes to identify the role of ideology in the construction of identities in a conciliation hearing at PROCON, from a qualitative case study with actual data of talk. In this institutional context, the negotiation between the parties, claimant and claimed, depends on an intense discursive construction of versions on the fact. The conception of ideology as a negotiated sense in the interactional situation is considered (BILLIG, 1991; SHI-XU, 2000; THOMPSON, 2011). Also the notion of identity is taken as an interactional construct, so they are fluid and fragmented, negotiated and maintained or refuted by the participants in the social encounter (BUCHOLTZ and HALL, 2004; OCHS, 1993; MOITA LOPES, 2001). The results of the study show that the ideological dimension served, as postulated by Shi-xu (2000), to provide status of factuality to subjective opinions and had the function of guiding the meaning in the process of building and sustaining identities of those claimed as bad professionals x good professionals.

Maurício Carlos da Silva, Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora Instituto Federal do Sudeste de Minas Gerais

Doutorando em Linguística - UFJF. Mestre em Estudos Linguísticos - UFV (2014). Especialista em Língua Portuguesa - FIJ (2011). Licenciado em Letras Português/Espanhol - UNIPAC (2008). Bacharel em Filosofia FAM (2006). Atualmente é professor efetivo do Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do Sudeste de Minas Gerais - Campus São João Del-Rei. Tem experiência na área de Letras, com ênfase em Línguas Portuguesa e Espanhola, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: Ensino de Línguas Materna e Estrangeira, Linguística Aplicada, Análise da Conversa e Sociolinguística Interacional.

Possui Graduação em Letras pela Faculdade de F.C.L. de Carangola/ Universidade Estadual de Minas Gerais (1997), Mestrado em Letras/Linguística pela Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora (2002), Doutorado em Letras/Estudos da Linguagem pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (2007) e Pós-Doutoramento na Unviersidade Federal Fluminense. É Professor Adjunto IV da Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora, atuando como professora na Faculdade de Letras e na Pós-Graduação em Linguística. Desenvolve pesquisas na área da Sociolinguística Interacional e na interface gramática e interação, com ênfase em argumentação e avaliação em dois contextos institucionais: PROCON e Audiências do Juizado Especial Criminal.
