Public role of journalist: from impartiality to social cohesion

Abstract

This article inserts in the debate about the kind of journalism is required in complex and plural societies, and argues the old tool of technical quality in newsmaking process. Criticise heritage of spilling theory in communication field, according to if more objective information, more democracy and more institutionality. And thus reconsider criteria of impartiality and professional competence to judge good information in moral terms, proposing in replacement social involvement, which is reach promoting a culture of peace. Finally redefines responsible journalism as journalism that mediate between factions to cause a social cohesion.
