Abstract

In the present article, we try to examine the problems that affect the Brazil¬ian broadcast stations characterized by an education and cultural approach, many of them called public TVs1. We try to evaluate the barriers that this kind of enterprise has to face, in respect to the conquest of a wider public, and to what concerns the shape and the content that are transmitted. Our main hypotheses is that the deficient educational background of the majority of the people and the lack of access to museums, cinemas, theaters, libraries, among others, are central factors that intimidate the receptor when he is confronted with programs of remarkable educational and cultural content.
