Abstract

This article presents a reflection about what high school students in a public school on the outskirts of Juiz de Fora, MG, think about the Jornal Nacional. In a society with little habit of reading the news from local TV gets status of guidance, to which men and women use to obtain information to understand their daily lives. Since JN proposes to contribute to the day-to-day of the Brazilian citizen, decided to investigate its reception among the youth of the suburbs. From the analysis of 283 questionnaires and collected evidence in a discussion group, we find that young people watch on main Rede Globo TV newscast of an effective means of information about Brazil and the world, but fragile with respect to what actually comprises the daily youth from the periphery.
