Abstract

The international journalism is experiencing a period of tension caused by changes covering technological issues, related to the economy of media organizations and the scenario of international relations and cover profiles. Research in pioneering countries in this type of news, such as the United States and England, show a reduction in space and number of professionals linked to the sector. In Brazil the criticism of the reduction of international news and the quality of that coverage is growing. All this against a backdrop of globalization and interdependence among nations, when the notion of cosmopolitanism and interest in the "other" are essential. Therefore, this article analyzes the section of international news of the Folha de S. Paulo and O Estado de S. Paulo, in a 20 years apart (1993 and 2013), to describe and discuss possible changes or continuities with regard to forms coverage, newsworthiness, approaches, thematic and most recurring sources of information.
