Journalism and narrativity in line: a theoretical and conceptual course through the elements of in-depth reporting

Abstract

In order to articulate the various theoretical reflections about the tension between narrativity and referentiality in informative discourse, this text seeks to define the elements of language of journalistic in-depth reporting, distinguishing it from other related formats. For this, we review the configuration of the journalistic genre and its premises, functions and currents, as well as examine the various concepts of news and reporting. At the end, we map five major characteristics of in-depth reporting – space-time and contextual expansion; dramatic construction; reinforcing of enunciation/authorship; singularization of facts; and the use of fictionalization elements – and present the hypothesis that, more than a variation of the field of journalism, this format is a manifestation of narrativity or fictionality, which are always present to a greater or lesser extent in information texts.

Doutorando pelo Programa de Pós-Graduação em Ciências da Comunicação da Universidade de São Paulo (PPGCOM-USP). Professor de pós-graduação lato sensu dos cursos de Produção Executiva e Gestão em TV e Jornalismo Cultural no Centro de Pesquisa e Pós-Graduação (CPPG) das Faculdades Metropolitanas Unidas (FMU). Coordenador de conteúdo e editor na agência Report Sustentabilidade. Mestre em Comunicação pela Faculdade Cásper Líbero (2011) e graduado em Comunicação Social - Jornalismo pela Universidade da Amazônia (2009). Autor do livro "O próximo e o distante na ficção: experiência, enunciação e (re)conhecimento do Outro na narrativa televisual brasileira" (2014).
