The academic research on journalism in Brazilian post-graduation: data on theses and dissertations published in the programs of Communication and Journalism (1972-2015)

Abstract

This paper presents the survey of theses and dissertations published in Communication and Journalism Brazilian postgraduate programs (1972-2015) to quantify the research about Journalism, exposing the regional distribution of this productions and to identify a gender profile of the researchers. In order to carry out the research, it was necessary to cross data provided by the thesis and dissertations bank of Capes, Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations, mapping published by a project developed at UFRGS (theses and dissertations from the area from 1992 to 2002), repositories online, institutions sites, postgraduate programs sites and internal catalogs in some institutions. Although a content analysis of production is not the objective, this article contributes to understanding the development of the field’s programs and the academic production on Journalism in the country. The result of the mapping indicates that about a quarter of the Brazilian research developed in Communication programs are about Journalism.
