Abstract

Based on the consensus that surround the political coverage (BIROLI, 2013), the article goes through the theoretical path of studies on newsworthiness criteria to observe the boundaries of what could be news. Functioning on a cultural map (HALL et al, 1999), news values, as an attribute that the journalist carries throughout the news production process, characterized itself as legitimizing the lack of plurality of events in this specialized editorial. Between the political alignments and the adversary coverage, these values (re)affirm what is important to be reported, legitimizing an agenda of hegemonic groups and actors. The result is seen in the promotion of government guidelines and official sources, marginalizing the events of groups with less media expression and highlighting a correlation between news values and political hegemonies.
